Leon High School and ClassNotes, with support from the Leon High School Foundation, present A Musical Celebration of Black History Month, a concert performed at Leon High School by the professional musicians of ClassNotes and the students of Leon High School, featuring music composed by black American composers.  A Musical Celebration of Black History Month culminates a one-week residency at Leon High School, in which ClassNotes’ artists work intensively with the History and English classes, Orchestra, and Jazz Band, teaching about the role of music from the era of slavery, music inspired by the Harlem Renaissance, and music that came out of the Civil Rights period, and highlighting accomplished African-American composers from the nineteenth century to today, including Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, George Walker, Florence B. Price, Margaret Bonds, Dorothy Rudd Moore, Regina Baiocchi, William Grant Still, and Harry Burleigh.
